The F.I.S.H. Walk In Center is a warm and inviting place with a wide variety of information available regarding F.I.S.H. services as well as senior/disabled needs. Our friendly volunteers are waiting to greet you and to answer your questions. Stop in and say hello, sign our Guest Book. We look forward to your visit!

Composed entirely of a network of volunteers, F.I.S.H. (Friends In Service Here)(A 501(c)(3) non-profit serving Sanibel and Captiva) operates solely on the generosity of others who give of their time, resources, talents and monies. Volunteers are always welcome, especially during the summer off-season, and receive complete training in their areas of interest for service. Donations of new or clean health equipment in good operating condition are always well received as are monetary donations to purchase equipment. Monetary donations are also used for many other needs of our island neighbors and for F.I.S.H. operating expenses. No member of F.I.S.H. draws a salary or receives monetary compensation for their work for F.I.S.H.

F.I.S.H. volunteers do not provide medical or health care nor offer medical or health advice nor do F.I.S.H. volunteers take over the duties of a caretaker. F.I.S.H. volunteers do provide a helping hand, genuine caring friendship, and needed services for many people on Sanibel and Captiva, residents and visitors alike.

HISTORY:

F.I.S.H. of Sanibel was established in December 1981. The group chose as its motto "Neighbors Helping Neighbors".

Having adopted a logo, F.I.S.H. went into action March 23, 1982, as a non-religious, non sectarian group. By April 15, 1982, Articles of Association had been adopted by the Board of Directors. The Internal Revenue Service accorded tax-exempt status on September 24, 1982 to this volunteer, non-dues-paying organization.

In March 2007, a new logo reflecting the island community orientation of F.I.S.H. of Sanibel was designed and adopted. Incorporation was completed on April 16, 2007. By Laws and a Resolution, which reflected much that was already in the Articles of Association and replaced the Articles, were adopted on September 5, 2007. The long-anticipated Walk-In Center was opened on September 4, 2007 in the Village Shopping Center, making F.I.S.H. more accessible to the public, providing a central point for distribution of forms, brochures and information regarding F.I.S.H. and various other agencies providing services for the elderly and disabled and others who may need a helping hand.
